Huperzine-A is a potent, reversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase — the enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine in the synapse. By inhibiting this enzyme, Huperzine-A preserves acetylcholine levels, extending the duration and intensity of cholinergic neurotransmission. It also has neuroprotective effects against glutamate-induced excitotoxicity.
Works synergistically with Alpha-GPC: while Alpha-GPC increases acetylcholine production, Huperzine-A prevents its breakdown. This dual mechanism produces significantly greater cholinergic activity than either ingredient alone — the foundation of the CogHealth™ memory stack.
Approved as a treatment for Alzheimer's disease in China. Multiple RCTs confirm improvements in memory, cognitive function, and activities of daily living. A 1999 study in adolescents showed significant improvement in memory test scores. Well-tolerated at standard doses.
50–200mcg daily. Lower doses (50–100mcg) are effective for healthy adults. Higher doses are used in clinical settings for cognitive decline. Cycling (5 days on, 2 days off) is recommended for long-term use to prevent receptor desensitization.
