GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid)
GABA is the brain's primary inhibitory neurotransmitter — it reduces neural excitability by binding to GABA-A and GABA-B receptors, hyperpolarizing neurons and decreasing their firing rate.
GABA is the brain's primary inhibitory neurotransmitter — it reduces neural excitability by binding to GABA-A and GABA-B receptors, hyperpolarizing neurons and decreasing their firing rate. Low GABA is associated with anxiety, insomnia, seizures, and chronic stress. Oral GABA supplementation has been shown to cross the blood-brain barrier in meaningful amounts, particularly in individuals with increased intestinal permeability.
Addresses the neurological root of stress-driven insomnia and anxiety — the inability to "turn off" the nervous system at night. In SerenCalm™, GABA works alongside L-theanine and magnesium to create a comprehensive nervous system calming protocol that addresses multiple pathways simultaneously.
A 2006 study (Abdou et al.) showed that oral GABA significantly reduced stress markers and increased alpha waves within 1 hour. More recent research suggests that gut-produced GABA may be the primary mechanism, with oral supplementation supporting the gut-brain GABA axis.
100–750mg is the effective dose range. Best taken 30–60 minutes before bed for sleep support, or during the day for anxiety management. Works synergistically with L-theanine and magnesium glycinate.
