DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid)
DHA is the structural omega-3 fatty acid — it constitutes approximately 30% of the fatty acid composition of the brain's gray matter and 50% of the retina.
DHA is the structural omega-3 fatty acid — it constitutes approximately 30% of the fatty acid composition of the brain's gray matter and 50% of the retina. DHA is incorporated into neuronal cell membranes, where it supports membrane fluidity, receptor function, and synaptic plasticity. It is also the precursor to resolvins and protectins — specialized pro-resolving mediators that actively resolve inflammation.
While EPA addresses active inflammation, DHA provides the structural foundation for brain health and cognitive function. The combination of EPA and DHA in a 3:2 ratio (as in Mega EPA/DHA™) provides both anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective benefits.
DHA is essential for brain development and cognitive function throughout life. Studies confirm that low DHA levels are associated with cognitive decline, depression, and ADHD. Supplementation improves memory, processing speed, and mood in adults with low omega-3 status.
Minimum 500mg DHA daily for brain health maintenance. Higher doses (1–2g) for cognitive support or during pregnancy. The triglyceride form provides superior bioavailability.
