Black Cohosh
Black cohosh acts on serotonin receptors (5-HT1A and 5-HT7) in the hypothalamus to reduce the thermoregulatory dysfunction that causes hot flashes.
Black cohosh acts on serotonin receptors (5-HT1A and 5-HT7) in the hypothalamus to reduce the thermoregulatory dysfunction that causes hot flashes. It does not act as a phytoestrogen (contrary to older research) but rather as a selective serotonin receptor modulator in the hypothalamic thermoregulatory center. This explains its effectiveness for hot flashes without the risks associated with estrogen supplementation.
The primary hot flash and night sweat ingredient in Laidex™. Standardized to 27-deoxyactein (the active marker compound) ensures consistent therapeutic potency. Used specifically for the vasomotor symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.
One of the most studied botanicals for menopausal symptoms. A 2010 Cochrane review found significant reduction in hot flash frequency and severity. Multiple RCTs confirm efficacy comparable to low-dose HRT for vasomotor symptoms. The German Commission E has approved it for menopausal symptoms.
20–40mg standardized extract twice daily. Effects typically seen within 4–8 weeks. Safe for long-term use (up to 6 months per current guidelines). Not recommended in women with hormone-sensitive cancers without physician oversight.
