Adaptogen

Ashwagandha (KSM-66®)

KSM-66® is the most clinically studied full-spectrum ashwagandha root extract (5% withanolides).

How It Works

KSM-66® is the most clinically studied full-spectrum ashwagandha root extract (5% withanolides). It modulates the HPA axis by reducing cortisol secretion from the adrenal cortex, downregulates stress-responsive genes, and supports GABA-A receptor activity in the brain — producing a calming effect without sedation. It also supports thyroid function by promoting T4-to-T3 conversion.

Why It's in Our Formulas

Ashwagandha is the cornerstone adaptogen in the Taylor MD stress protocol. It addresses cortisol at the source — reducing overproduction during the stress response while simultaneously supporting adrenal resilience. This dual action (calm + rebuild) is why it appears in multiple Taylor MD formulas.

Clinical Evidence

Over 20 double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials. Key findings: 27.9% reduction in cortisol (Chandrasekhar et al., 2012), significant improvement in perceived stress (PSS scale), improved sleep quality, and enhanced VO2 max. KSM-66 specifically has the most robust human trial data of any ashwagandha extract.

Dosing & Timing

300mg twice daily (morning and evening) is the clinically validated dose. Full effects typically seen at 8 weeks. KSM-66 is fat-soluble — always take with food for optimal absorption.

"KSM-66 is not a sedative — it is a cortisol regulator. Patients often tell me they feel calmer but not tired. That's the difference between an adaptogen and a tranquilizer."
